Introductory Seminar for Denmark case study

In November 2011, we held an introductory seminar for all stakeholders to decide upon the key objectives for the Long Term Management Plan (LTMP).
Participants included the Pelagic RAC, the Danish Fishermen’s Organisation, the Pelagic Producers’ Organisation, the European Commission and several academics.

The meeting concluded that the major objective of a LTMP should be that it results in ahigh and stable yield based on a sensible rate of fishing effort.

Participants also felt that the LTMP should be:

  • simple to understand for all stakeholders
  • adaptable to changes in the ecosystem
  • Specific, Measureable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-limited (SMART)
