Fishing industry calls for simplified CFP

The fishing industry is pressing the European Union to simplify the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP).  Reform will be possible when the policy comes up for renewal next year.  The UK’s National Federation of Fishermen’s Organisations (NFFO) has joined the push for reform, urging the EU to simplify the CFP’s regulations to make them easier for small-scale fishermen to understand and follow.  They argue that the complexity of the CFP in its current form makes it difficult to enforce at the local level, and that the best way to promote sustainable fishing is to decentralize the enforcement of regulations to local industry authorities.
