Kickoff, DenkTank

In May 2011 a kick off meeting was held with the IMARES / WUR project team and our partner PVis (the Dutch Product Board). In the meantime between writing the proposal and the start of the project, many new issues regarding discards have raised. Because of this, during this meeting the proposal was reconsidered and initial plans for the implementation of the project were drafted. We have also started writing a summary-paper on current state of the art of the discussion on discards in the Netherlands & EU.

A so called ‘discard DenkTank’ was formed in the Netherlands early 2011. This is a group of representatives of the Dutch Fishing Industry (fishers). The DenkTank is aiming to draft a plan to reduce discards from the industry perspective. This group has also identified gaps in the research about discards.

The Dutch case study was discussed during a meeting of this group in July 2011. It was clear that the interests of the DenkTank are much related to the (research) activities of GAP 2. The DenkTank agreed to be the consultative group for the Dutch case study in the future.
