GAP2 attends MIRAC 2014

An update from the GAP2 team on its activities around Europe – this time two GAP2 scientists report back on MIRAC.

GAP2 scientists Steve Mackinson and Kari Stange attended the annual meeting between ICES and the Advisory Councils (MIRAC) which was held this week in Copenhagen. MIRAC is a forum for discussions around the ICES advisory process with focus on the need for transparency and communication with stakeholders. This year, challenges related to providing integrated advice on fisheries and the marine environment was on the agenda.

The need to involve stakeholders in discussions not only focussed on fisheries issues was recognized. Working groups like ICES WGMARS, where GAP2 scientists are active participants, can be a suitable forum – or ‘think tank’ – for further developing stakeholder engagement in the ICES and science advisory processes.
