GAP2 at SeaWeb’s Seafood Summit in Hong Kong

Hong Kong, China. GAP2 Coordinator Steve Mackinson was an invited speaker on two panels at SeaWeb’s 10th International Seafood Summit in Hong Kong (6-8th Sep 2012), where discussion revolved around building bridges with industry to ensure sustainable seafood.

What Happened

Conversations during the Summit show that once again collaboration and communication is the key to enabling bottom-up actions toward sustainable seafood. Dominated mainly by discussion amongst food processors, marketers and environmental non-governmental organisations, the fishing industry was noticeable by its absence. This picture left an impression of the continuing need and value in making the connections along the whole chain from catching to consuming, and questions on how GAP2 can make a contribution to this.
